Housebuilder Bloor Homes has submitted a planning application to build 400 new homes in Oxfordshire.

The developer wants to develop the new residential properties along with a further 60 sheltered or extra care homes as well as small scale employment space, as part of the major extension to Banbury's Bretch Hill estate.

The land is one of five sites that have been earmarked for the construction of new homes as part of Cherwell District Council's local housing plans for the area over the next two decades.

Bloor's strategic planning director Steve MacPherson has revealed that construction work is likely to commence in mid-2014, subject to planning consent being approved.

He told the press: "Over the last three to four years we haven't stopped building houses at all. Delivery is an important aspect for the local authority."

Elsewhere in Banbury, Bewley Homes is developing a selection of three- and four-bedroom houses in Bloxham, Banbury. Prices start from £245,000.

Further afield, David Wilson Homes is building a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes at Great Western Park in Didcot, Oxfordshire, OX11. Prices start from £247,000.
