There has been a significant rise in the number of affordable homes being registered, according to fresh data released by NHBC.
In February 2013 the volume of affordable homes registered by housebuilders rose by almost 120% from 1,373 in February 2012 to almost 3,000 in the same month of this year.
New affordable homes in Whitehaven
Two Castles Housing Association has started building work on a collection of new affordable homes for those with the greatest housing need in Whitehaven. Developed in partnership with developers Kells Development Group with support from Copeland Borough Council, Two Castles will deliver 16 new homes to rent for local people with a connection to the town and its surrounding area.
Affordable homes in Nottingham
Nottingham City Homes (NCH) has awarded a £4.2m contract for the construction of 54 new affordable homes in the Radford area of the city. The 55,000 sq ft development will feature a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, with construction set to commence in the summer with completion scheduled for the end of 2014.
Affordable new homes in Scunthorpe
Plans to develop up to 6,000 new homes, including a significant share of affordable homes, across a number of sites in and around Scunthorpe have this week gone on public display, as part of the consultation period.
New affordable homes in Liverpool
Regeneration work in Fairfield, Liverpool, is starting to take shape as construction starts on 11 new affordable homes, and planning permission has just been issued for a further 10 new homes. The 11 properties on Lomond Road, designed by Kirkham-based Croft Goode architects for social housing provider Riverside, will feature a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes.
Affordable homes in London
A selection of affordable homes will be built on the Golflinks estate in Southall and Copley Close in Hanwell in Ealing, west London, after Ealing Council secured funding from the London mayor's housing covenant fund. Some 60 new homes for rent and shared ownership are planned for the Golflinks as part of the estate's regeneration programme. A further 20 affordable homes will be built in Copley Close.
Affordable new homes in Lincoln
Plans to develop 24 affordable homes in Lincoln have been given the go-ahead by West Lindsey District Council. The Lindum group will start construction work on the new homes in Waterford Lane later this year.
