Sir Frank Gibb, a former chairman and chief executive of housebuilder Taylor Woodrow, has died, aged 85.
Having joined Taylor Woodrow as a graduate engineer in 1948, Sir Frank Gibb, who was awarded a CBE in 1981 and a knighthood in 1987, enjoyed a highly successful career in the construction industry which spanned over 50 years. He worked his way up through the ranks until finally being appointed group chairman in 1985, a position he held for 13 years before retiring in 1998.
Since his retirement, Taylor Woodrow Construction became part of Vinci while the housebuilding side merged with George Wimpey to become Taylor Wimpey.
At Taylor Woodrow, Sir Frank was involved in a number of major projects, including the UK's first nuclear power station and the construction of the Channel Tunnel.
Sir Frank, who lived with his second wife, Kirsten, has three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as three step-children and six step-grandchildren. His first wife, Wendy, died in October 1997.
