Gloucestershire's rolling countryside, pretty Cotswold villages, fantastic transport links and first class culture and shopping make it a sought-after place to live. Developers in the region currently have a diverse range of new homes available in both historic and new village settings - suiting buyers seeking traditional or contemporary living.

For those who prefer a livelier pace of life and easy commutes into Bristol, Redrow has created Aurora Spring in the urban village of Cheswick. Bordered by woodlands and open fields, Cheswick has its own village centre incorporating a high street, school, pub, restaurant, surgery and pharmacy. All the shopping, entertainment and business opportunities of Bristol city centre are only a few miles away, while the M32 is just minutes away for speedy connections to the M4 and M5. Priced from around £150,995 for a two-bedroom end-of-terrace, the government-backed NewBuy scheme is available to help buyers secure a 95% mortgage.

Barratt Homes has three-, four- and five-bedroom homes available at Royal Parade in the new community of Kingsway Village in Quedgeley, which is home to many local amenities including a Tesco Express, coffee shop, estate agent, chemist and pub. Priced from £208,500, these properties are situated conveniently close to the M5 just three miles away, and Gloucester city centre, about five miles away. Meanwhile, Stroud's train station about four miles away, and the popular Gloucester Quays shopping outlet is less than five miles away.

For a more traditional village lifestyle, CALA Homes has created a small development of just 26 attractive stone-built homes at Cotswold Chase on the edge of the well-established and desirable village of Eastcombe near Stroud. Surrounded by gentle, rolling countryside, the two-bedroom coach houses and three-, four- and five-bedroom semi-detached and detached family homes at Cotswold Chase are available from £335,000. With high-specification interiors, many properties also enjoy lovely rural views. Despite the tranquil setting, Cotswold Chase has good amenities very close by and the village is well-connected for commuters - situated between Stroud and Cirencester.

In a similar price bracket, Perry Bishop & Chambers has a selection of new three-storey homes for sale in the village of Birdlip at Partridge Corner. The semi-rural location is ideal for commuters to Cheltenham, Cirencester and Gloucester, with easy access nearby to the A417 and M5. Priced from £325,000, and with purchase assistance schemes available, the top floor of each two- and three-bedroom property features a master suite including built-in wardrobes and en suite facilities, and each comes with a single garage and ready-turfed garden. The nearby village of Painswick has good local amenities, and families have an extensive choice of excellent independent and state schools in the surrounding area - with Birdlip Primary School said to be ‘outstanding' in the most recent Ofsted inspection.

Finally, for buyers with a more generous budget, the well-established, leafy village of Leckhampton on the southern edge of Cheltenham is now home to a collection of three- and four-bedroom homes from Berkeley Homes at Regents Green. Priced from £399,995, these properties are selling quickly, with just a few homes remaining. Set in a mature landscaped setting in an appealing residential area just a couple of miles from Cheltenham's centre, the properties at Regents Green incorporate Victorian architectural features and modern, high-specification interiors.
