Up to 146 new affordable homes will be developed in Nottinghamshire as part of wider regeneration schemes in the area, thanks to a partnership between building contractor Westleigh Developments, housing provider Derwent Living and several local authorities throughout the county.
Plans are in place for the construction of 38 new two-bedroom bungalows for over 55s in Nottingham city centre, along with 108 much-needed affordable homes for local families in the surrounding areas.
Funded through the Home's and Communities Agency's (HCA) Affordable Housing Programme as well as private investment from Derwent Living construction is already underway at two sites, with completion set for the end of this year.
Gainsford Close, Nottingham will provide spacious bungalows earmarked for those aged 55 and over, whilst Occupation Road in Hucknall will have 16 affordable homes built. 2014 will also see 56 affordable homes being built in Barnaby Gate, Newark, and 36 homes have also been submitted for planning permission in Chewton Street, Eastwood.
Samantha Veal, assistant director of development at Derwent Living, said, "It is critical to continue the delivery of affordable housing to the East Midlands region. Funding levels are significantly reduced and it is only through the kind of partnership working that Derwent, Westleigh, the HCA and our local authority counterparts are engaged in that schemes will continue to be delivered to our region."
Ian Jones, business development director at Westleigh, commented, "We are delighted to have commenced work on new affordable homes in partnership with both Derwent and the county's local authorities. Each development is an excellent example of partnership working and will provide not only much needed homes for the people of Nottinghamshire, but also a number of training and employment opportunities, resulting in a great boost to the local economy."
