JC Musgrave and Helios Properties have submitted plans for a £155m property development in Hartlepool to the Borough Council.

The property firms already have planning consent to build 168 houses on the site, called Wynyard Park, but they want to develop a further 600 more new homes as part of the scheme.

The aim of the project is to transform the 700-acre Wynyard Park site into a high quality, mixed-use sustainable community which brings business, lifestyle and leisure facilities together in one location.

Additional plans for the site also include woodland nature trails, lakes and cycling paths along with a primary school, community centre, a public house and eventually a new £300m hospital to be run by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, with construction scheduled to get underway in 2017.

Chris Musgrave, chief executive of Wynyard Park Ltd, said: "If successful, this development will be the start of progressive action within the control of Hartlepool Borough Council and could bring real tangible benefits to the council and the town as a whole.

"This is an exciting time for Wynyard Park with work starting on site in the next couple of months and this application is a continuation of the masterplan.

"As one of the most successful business parks in the north of England, we are keen to build on this success and further develop the site so we can continue to attract major businesses and investment to the park.

"The housing development and subsequent infrastructure would help to achieve this and deliver a vital economic boost to the local area and indeed the region."
