It is well known that residents of the Scottish Highlands enjoy a high quality of life and therefore, it's unsurprising that the area is popular with first-time buyers, those moving up the property ladder and downsizers alike. House-hunters looking to find a new home in the Highlands have a varied selection of properties to choose from.

Deveron Homes has converted a Victorian mansion in Inverness to create a community of luxury one- and two-bedroom apartments. A further selection of two-bedroom apartments has also been newly built on the grounds at Fairfields. Prices start from £165,950 and benefits include open-plan living areas with full-length corner windows, period features and exclusive private gardens. While the exterior of the former mansion provides an interesting historical feel, the interior of each apartment boasts the kind of contemporary specification expected from savvy buyers.

Only two properties remain available at Robertson Homes' Hamilton Gardens development in Elgin. Taken from the housebuilder's ‘Boutique' collection of homes, the ‘Ivory' is a four-bedroom detached family villa with lounge, open-plan kitchen, dining and family area, en suite to the master bedroom and an integral garage. Both homes still on the market are ‘Ivory' house types. The first is as above and is priced at £220,995, while the other, which costs £235,995, also boasts a garden room off the dining area and a Jack & Jill en suite to bedrooms two and three.

An impressive collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom detached bungalows can be found at Tulloch Homes' Braes of Conon development at Conon Bridge. A choice of three different home styles are available here and there is something to suit everyone. Firstly, the ‘MacKenzie' is priced from £159,950 and comprises a lounge, separate kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom.

For those looking for a bit more space, the ‘Campbell' costs £218,500 and boasts a formal lounge, open-plan kitchen and dining area, master bedroom with fitted wardrobes and an en suite shower room, two further bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and a family bathroom. Finally, the ‘Murray' will set you back £279,950 and consists of a lounge, dining room, breakfasting kitchen, master bedroom with en suite, three further bedrooms, a family bathroom, utility room and integral garage.

Silver Rock is a Highland Housing Alliance development of new homes in Golspie. The focus at this development is on New Energy Homes and eco-friendly living. Local resources and sustainable materials have been used in the site's construction and the homes are designed to use minimal energy and produce less carbon emissions than traditionally built houses, meaning buyers will benefit from reduced energy bills. Prices at Silver Rock start from £130,000 for a three-bedroom property.
