Alongside new developments in Bedford and other major towns, Taylor Wimpey's current portfolio offers house buyers in Bedfordshire a range of new homes in smaller towns across the county such as Ampthill, Biggleswade and Leighton Buzzard, many of which combine a laid-back pace of life with good commuter links and lovely countryside nearby.

Just a few miles outside of Bedford in the new sustainable town of Wixams, Heritage Park offers a range of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes with timeless, classical designs. All of the homes will be close to brand new community facilities including shops, schools, businesses and 300 acres of sports pitches, parklands and open spaces. Priced from £148,000 to £320,000, the FirstBuy is available to help first-time buyers on to the property ladder, while second-time buyers looking to sell their current home could benefit from Taylor Wimpey's Part Exchange Plus scheme. Commuters living at the development will benefit from having the A6 and A421 Bedford southern bypass nearby, offering quick links from Wixams to the region's major commuter routes, including the M1 and A1. Moving up the price bracket, Woodlands Park on the northern fringes of Bedford, offers a choice of three- to five-bedroom homes priced from £330,000 to £367,000, close to an excellent range of well-respected local schools.

In the popular commuter town of Leighton Buzzard, Billington Grove offers new two-bedroom properties right up to spacious five-bedroom detached family homes priced from £116,000 to £280,000. The location offers fast links to London 40 miles away, via the A5 and M1, and with trains to London Euston in 45 minutes and Milton Keynes in 15 minutes. Leighton Buzzard has plenty of shops, a library, a theatre, sporting clubs, and schools for all ages - while it is also close to the beautiful Chiltern Hills. Both FirstBuy and Part Exchange Plus are available on selected plots.

Just outside the market town of Biggleswade, Saxon Fields is in a rural spot surrounded by farmland, yet within easy reach of the centre of town, and offers new homes priced from £155,000 to £269,950. Just 40 miles north of central London, Biggleswade offers a good range of amenities including shops, supermarkets, a leisure centre, and a good selection of schools for all ages, while Langford Meadow is a famous nature reserve nearby. The town is also very well-served by transport links including a railway station with trains to London every 23 minutes (with a journey time of just over an hour), and the A1 road between London and the north. Another development from Taylor Wimpey just outside Biggleswade is Bramble Walk, offering a range of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes priced from £158,400 to £200,000 - with FirstBuy and Part Exchange Plus both available on selected plots.

At the more exclusive end of the budget, Greensand Woods in historic Ampthill is made up of just 37 family homes in an established residential area bordered by woodland, priced from £405,000 to £595,000. The town is home to some lovely Georgian architecture, excellent shopping facilities, and highly regarded schools; it is close to lovely countryside and a nature reserve; and the larger town of Milton Keynes is only 14 miles away for bigger shops and further entertainment. The M1 is six miles away for commuters, while nearby Flitwick railway station offers direct services to central London and Luton.
