Focus on Lincolnshire

As one might expect from the second-largest county in England, Lincolnshire offers plenty of choice, both in terms of the character of the region and the type of new-build homes that are available.

Though still a largely agricultural county, Lincolnshire has its fair share of industrial centres too, most notably in Grimsby and along the southern bank of the River Humber. But most people are likely to be drawn to the county by its extensive stretches of countryside and a peppering of charming market towns and villages, the historic city of Lincoln or coastal resorts such as Mablethorpe and Skegness.

For those who work in and around Peterborough, one of the region's major employment centres, a new property in Bourne, Spalding or Stamford makes a great choice as they combine proximity to countryside and good schooling with easy road access to the town. Furthermore, express rail services between London and Peterborough take as little as 45 minutes.

Further north, Lincoln also now offers direct train services to London and has good road links to the rest of the county, such as Newark, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Sleaford. There is a good range of educational establishments in the city, however the town bucks the county trend: most of Lincolnshire operates the 11+ exam and runs grammar schools, Lincoln favours non-selective education.

Grimsby is the administrative heart of North East Lincolnshire and though it has declined somewhat since its heyday as the world's largest and busiest fishing port, it is still home to around 90,000 and an important local employment centre. It also has a hub for shoppers and has excellent road and rail links, including Lincolnshire's only motorway, the M180, through South Yorkshire and onto the North West.
