Local residents and campaigners are celebrating after Bloor Homes submitted a planning application to develop new homes in the suburban village of Hempsted in Gloucestershire.

The site had initially been earmarked for the construction of a pub, but local residents campaigned vigorously to block the plans, and are now delighted that the proposal for the Hungry Horse bar has been dropped altogether after the planned scheme was rejected by Gloucester City Council.

Up to 14 much needed new homes could now be developed on the vacant land off Quayside Way after Bloor Homes applied for planning consent to construct a couple of two-bedroom flats and 12 three-bedroom houses on the site.

Richard Trelfa, chairman of the Hempsted Residents' Association, told the press: "This is definitely a victory for everyone who objected to the Hungry Horse pub."

Elsewhere in Gloucestershire, Taylor Wimpey is drawing up plans for a new development in Cheltenham.

The housebuilder wants to build around 100 new homes at a plot on Gloucester Road which will soon be vacated by Travis Perkins.

Taylor Wimpey will submit an official planning application for the proposed development once it has completed its public consultation.

Plans for the new homes have yet to be confirmed, but it is reported that they will be primarily three- and four-bedroom family houses.
