A number of housebuilders are currently creating developments that will meet some of the demand for new, family-sized homes in the Maidenhead area - a town which attracts a large number of professionals who want to live close to London and the M4's high-tech corridor.

Maidenhead station is set to be the western terminus of the Crossrail route and, once the service becomes fully operational in 2019, at least four trains an hour will whisk commuters into central London. Many of Maidenhead's residents already commute to work in London, which is currently a 50-minute train ride away, and the station also links to stations towards Bristol. By road the A4 runs through Maidenhead and junction 8/9 of the M4 skirts the western fringes of the town.

One of the current developments in the area is Barratt Homes'Brunel Gardens, situated just over a mile from the town centre yet with beautiful countryside close by. The remaining three-, four- and five-bedroom homes available there are priced from £480,000 to £653,950, offering options for families of different sizes. With the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, eligible buyers can secure a property there with a deposit of just 5%, a 75% mortgage, and the remaining 20% covered in the form of an equity loan, which is interest-free for five years.

Again situated just over a mile from the town centre, spicerhaart has a select cul-de-sac development of 22 two- and three-bedroom family homes from Shanly Homes, built in a variety of styles. Hamilton Place is made up of properties that offer generous living spaces and are finished to a high standard, with light, open plan living/dining areas to suit modern family lifestyles, and large glazed doors onto patios and rear gardens. Master bedrooms have en suites, and many have the extra luxury of a dressing room. Prices range from around £345,000 up to £599,999.

Right in the heart of Maidenhead, Boyn Hill Gardens is a development from Linden Homes that includes three-, four- and five-bedroom houses as well as smaller apartments. Just one four-bedroom, three-bathroom semi-detached home is now remaining, arranged over three floors and priced at £599,950.

For families who are house-hunting in the area but are not committed to Maidenhead itself, Bewley Homes has created a unique development of mews houses, apartments and townhouses in an enviable riverside spot in the town of Eton. Just seven miles from Maidenhead, Eton Thameside has some lovely park and riverside walks running right from its front doors, and there is a good choice of shops nearby as well as in neighbouring Windsor, a five-minute walk away. With such a spectacular location - including views over the Thames or Brocas Park from the balconies or sun-terraces of most properties - it is no surprise to find that these properties come with a hefty price tag of £1.75m upwards.

Last month media reports revealed that historic Woolley Grange in the village of Littlewick Green near Maidenhead is set to be transformed into a small development of 24 detached four- and five-bedroom homes. The site has been acquired by award-winning developer Berkeley Homes, with work now starting there - and completion expected throughout 2015. The development will also include the refurbishment and extension of the single-storey gatehouse lodge.
