Weekly affordable homes round-up

The number of new affordable homes started in England in 2013-14 increased by 15% to 41,654 compared with the previous year, according to Housing Minister Kris Hopkins. Citing data compiled by the Department for Communities and Local Government, Hopkins said the figures brought the number of affordable homes delivered since 2010 to "nearly 200,000".

New affordable homes in London

Some 2,270 affordable homes have been built in Brent since 2010, according to new figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government. Brent topped neighbouring boroughs Barnet, Camden and Harrow, which supplied 1,790, 1,130 and 1,070 affordable properties respectively.

A derelict building in central Thatcham is set to be bulldozed and replaced with affordable housing after West Berkshire Council's eastern area planning committee approved Sovereign Housing's application to develop new homes on the site.

Affordable new homes in Cornwall

A second application from developers Mevagissey Bay View LLP to build 21 affordable homes on a site in Mevagissey, which is officially classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), has once again been rejected despite being initially approved in 2012.

New affordable homes in Devon

A planning application to develop 222 new homes on land off Godwell Lane in Ivybridge, including 66 affordable homes, has been submitted by Barratt/David Wilson Homes. If plans are approved, the homes will comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses.

Affordable homes in Oxfordshire

Cherwell District Council has committed to investing £16.5m in an affordable housing scheme to help develop around 250 affordable rent, shared ownership and equity loan homes by March 2015.
