First-time buyers flocked to the East London Affordable Homes Show in Canary Wharf yesterday (Sunday), where the latest affordable homes in Hackney, Docklands, the Olympic village, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Havering, Barking and Dagenham were on display.
First-time buyers seeking to buy a new home in London have been boosted by the government's FirstBuy scheme which has been extended to March 2016, while the Mayor of London has committed around £100m worth of funding for the construction of up to 100,000 affordable homes in London.
All first-time buyers with an income of less than £64,300 a year are eligible for shared ownership opportunities if they are looking for a one- or two-bedroom home. For buyers seeking a larger, family-sized property, the upper income limit increases to £77,200 a year.
Some of the largest shared ownership housing firms showcased available properties at the event, while there were also some of London's leading legal and financial experts and affordable homes specialists in attendance. The FIRST STEPS team was also on hand to answer any questions about eligibility and the application process.
